“About Me is both the perfect summary and the perfect severance” .... WOW. The paradox of our being, especially in the realm of our creative endeavors, is one of the deepest, most personal elements of our creative ethos. Yet our online world asks us to strip down bare upon entry and claim a concrete box to stay in.
I've been reading Club Reticent for several months, and not once have I read the 'about me' page, but I have read Valerie's work. It's sentences like these that make me know she is planting seeds for a glorious garden of creative work, not just a singular statement of expression to be finished and forgotten after its moment in the light.
That's the kind of stuff I'm here to read, so thank you for writing it, Valerie!!
This was a profound read. The way you articulate the suffocating nature of a curated persona really hits home; it's a necessary reminder that we’re allowed to be inconsistent and unmarketable. A true act of rebellion.
You really are dripping poems. Jesus fucking Christ.
Rita - so much love to you

ty Valerie. there’s something in your writing that is pure magic.

I literally have the same dream (about murdering someone and being anxious about being found out)
What could this mean Sherry

On this exact same wavelength right now. And I also wrote about it, though less beautifully. Thank you.
“They’d hear the steady footsteps in rooms I’ve outgrown and undermined.” So poetic.
I love how you stripped back and bared your vulnerability.
❤️
